- The "WorkFit-TL" is a movable standing desk from Ergotron. It allows you to raise and lower your monitor and keyboard together, with a maximum height adjustment of approximately 38 cm.
- Reports suggest that prolonged sitting increases health risks. Incorporating standing work can improve posture and boost concentration (supported by large-scale studies).
- When we actually used it, we were impressed by its smooth elevation and robust stability. However, the keyboard tray is a bit narrow, and it takes some time management to get used to it.
- Tips for introduction: Initially, use a timer to switch between sitting and standing, use a thick mat or comfortable shoes, and adjust monitor height and wrist position.
Why Standing Desks Are Gaining Attention and Our First Impressions
The "sit, stand, sit" style we tried in the office isn't just a fad; there's a reason for it. It's been pointed out that sitting for long periods impairs blood and lymph flow, easily leading to lower back and shoulder pain due to poor posture. Large-scale studies have also reported a link between prolonged sitting and mortality rates (van der Ploeg et al., 2012). Honestly, at first, I thought, "Standing in the office is going to be uncomfortable," but when I actually used an adjustable desk, I was surprised by its convenience and effectiveness.

What We Liked and What Concerned Us
It's been about 5 months since we started using it, and the first thing we noticed was its "solid build." There's very little wobbling, and raising and lowering it is light and stress-free. When standing, your spine naturally straightens, and you can occasionally intersperse stretches or stepping in place, so your concentration is less likely to be broken. The desk surface is surprisingly spacious; you can raise and lower your coffee, notes, smartphone, etc., together, with almost no worry of them spilling due to shaking.
On the other hand, we felt that typing would be more comfortable if the space for the keyboard was a little wider. Also, since the price is by no means cheap, it's necessary to consider the overall budget and installation space of the workplace when introducing it.
Tips for Introducing and Using the Desk
Time Schedule for First-Time Users
- First 1-2 weeks: Aim for 30 minutes sitting / 30 minutes standing, using a timer to switch.
- Once you get used to it: You can transition to 90 minutes sitting / 30 minutes standing, or even mostly standing (individual differences apply).
- If standing for long periods, take short breaks or do light stretches once every hour.
Posture and Peripheral Adjustment Tips
- Align the top of your monitor with your eye level or slightly below (reduces neck strain).
- Position your keyboard so your elbows are at roughly a 90-degree angle.
- When standing, use a thick anti-fatigue mat or wear cushioned shoes to reduce fatigue.
- If the mouse or keyboard position isn't comfortable, consider an external trackball or a split keyboard.
Points to Note Before Introduction and Cost-Effectiveness
In addition to the product itself, introduction costs require time for adjusting installation space and employee training. However, based on our actual experience, considering the productivity improvements from reduced lower back pain and increased concentration, we feel that a return on investment can be expected in the long run. The benefits of introduction are particularly significant for people who frequently stand up due to lower back pain or those who are aware of their worsening posture.
However, not everyone prefers to "always stand," so it's important to create an environment where you can flexibly switch between sitting and standing. Also, since the height adjustment range, load capacity, and installation method vary by product, we recommend touching and checking the actual machine before purchasing if possible.
Summary
The WorkFit-TL is a robust, smoothly elevating, and reliable standing desk. When we actually used it, our posture improved, the time we could maintain concentration increased, and the burden on our lower back and shoulders was lightened. When introducing it, it's easier to sustain if you start by increasing standing work for short periods at first, and keep in mind adjusting the height of your monitor and keyboard, and using an anti-fatigue mat. The cost is somewhat high, but if you prioritize improving health and work efficiency, it's a product worth considering. We also recommend "trying it out first."
