Key Point: Based on the Silicon Valley style (grass-fed ghee + MCT oil), we've enhanced the flavor and antioxidant power with cacao and spices. We've carefully selected two variations: Choco-Mint and Cacao Butter + Clove. We recommend these for boosting morning focus, providing antioxidants, and supplying high-quality fats.
About this recipe
Silicon Valley-style coffee (also known as bulletproof coffee) is renowned as a beverage that combines high-quality fats with coffee to boost focus and satiety. Here at geefee, we embraced this concept and meticulously selected ingredients, undergoing numerous trials to achieve something 'more delicious and healthier.' This recipe is perfect for those looking to add a little something extra to their morning coffee, incorporate high-quality fats, or harness the antioxidant power of spices and cacao. When we tried making it ourselves, we were impressed by how our usual coffee transformed into a dessert-like treat, leaving us feeling satisfied for much longer.Ingredients (Serves 1)
- 200ml strong hot coffee (brewed via filter or French press)
- 1 tsp grass-fed ghee (approx. 5g) *Substitute: 5g cacao butter
- 1 tsp MCT oil (approx. 5ml) *Not needed if using cacao butter
- 1 tsp cacao powder (unsweetened, 100%) (for Choco-Mint)
- A few drops of vanilla extract (approx. 1/8 tsp)
- 1 drop food-grade peppermint extract or 1-2 fresh mint leaves (for Choco-Mint)
- A pinch of ground cloves (approx. 1-2 shakes)
- A tiny pinch of ground cinnamon (optional)
- A pinch of stevia powder or your sweetener of choice (optional)
- A pinch of salt (to enhance the flavor)
- (Optional) 1/4 tsp turmeric and a pinch of black pepper (to aid turmeric absorption)
Instructions
- Brew 200ml of strong coffee. It blends more easily while it's still hot.
- Place the coffee, ghee (or melted cacao butter), and MCT oil into a blender (or use a hand mixer or electric milk frother). Add a pinch of salt.
- To make the Choco-Mint version: Add 1 tsp cacao powder, a few drops of vanilla, 1 drop of peppermint, and a little stevia if needed. Blend thoroughly for 30–60 seconds until the surface is creamy.
- To make the Cacao Butter + Clove version (without ghee): Melt the cacao butter in a double boiler or microwave beforehand, then add the coffee, melted cacao butter, a pinch of cloves, and vanilla. Blend until smooth.
- Pour from the blender into a cup and it's ready. A light dusting of cinnamon on top helps bring the flavors together.
- Finishing Tips: Peppermint essence is quite strong, so start with just one drop and adjust to your liking. Cacao powder tends to clump, so it's best to mix it with a small amount of hot coffee first to create a smooth paste before adding the rest.
Nutrition & Health Benefits
This recipe stands out for its balanced combination of **high-quality fats** and **antioxidants**. Grass-fed ghee contains fat-soluble vitamins (A, K2) and short-chain fatty acids, while MCT oil, a medium-chain fatty acid, is rapidly metabolized and easily converted into energy, aiding in maintaining morning focus and supporting satiety. Cacao is rich in polyphenols, offering antioxidant benefits, and also contains essential minerals like magnesium and iron. Spices are known for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, with cloves and cinnamon particularly noted for their high antioxidant index. Curcumin, found in turmeric, offers anti-inflammatory benefits, and its absorption is enhanced by adding a small amount of black pepper. As a cautionary note, individual tolerance to caffeine and high-fat intake varies, so pregnant individuals or those with specific medical conditions should consult a doctor. Additionally, edible peppermint oil is highly concentrated, so it's advisable for pregnant individuals to avoid its use or consult a doctor.Tips for Variations
- If you want to lower the calorie count, you can reduce the amount of MCT oil and add a splash of warmed fat-free milk or almond milk to make it easier to drink.
- If you prefer a bit more sweetness, adding a small amount of maple syrup or honey will enhance the flavor (add heat-sensitive sweeteners at the end).
- For a refreshing twist, you can blend in fresh mint leaves instead of peppermint essence. If you are using essence, be sure to adjust it one drop at a time.
- During the winter, try a 'warming' version by adding a spice mix of turmeric, cinnamon, and ginger. Ginger is excellent for warming the body and supporting metabolism.
- If you prefer to avoid caffeine, you can substitute with decaf coffee and still enjoy nearly the same benefits and flavor.
