About this recipe
Avocado Bacon Wrap is perfect for people following a ketogenic or low-carb approach. The healthy fats in avocado combined with the savory flavor of bacon make a simple yet highly satisfying snack or appetizer. When we tried it ourselves, the warmed avocado became creamy and was surprisingly delicious. It's great as an easy snack on busy days or as finger food for parties, so please feel free to give it a try.
Ingredients (for 2)
- Avocado 1 (not overly ripe; slightly firm is recommended)
- Bacon 8 (if thick-cut, 5–6 slices is OK)
- Extra virgin olive oil 1 tsp (to taste)
- Paprika powder (or smoked paprika) a little
- Cherry tomatoes as needed (for garnish)
- Lemon or lime wedges to taste
- Black pepper a little
- (Optional) Toothpicks 8 (for securing)
How to make
- Preheat the oven to 220°C. If you don't have an oven, you can use an air fryer at 200°C instead.
- Cut the avocado in half lengthwise, remove the pit, peel, and then slice each half into 8 vertical wedges. If it's hard to cut, halve it first and then slice — it's easier to handle.
- Cut the bacon in half lengthwise or use it as-is, and wrap it so it covers the avocado slice. If the bacon edges tend to come loose, lightly secure with a toothpick.
- Arrange them on a baking sheet lined with parchment, lightly drizzle the surface with olive oil, and sprinkle with black pepper.
- Bake in the preheated oven at 220°C for about 10 minutes. Bake until the bacon reaches your preferred color (for crispier bacon, bake 12–14 minutes). Finishing under the grill (broiler) for 1–2 minutes makes them more fragrant.
- Let them rest for a few minutes after baking, then plate, sprinkle with paprika powder, and serve with cherry tomatoes and lemon. Enjoy while warm.
- If making in a frying pan, lightly cook the bacon over medium-low heat first, place the avocado on top, cover with a lid, and steam for 2–3 minutes to finish easily.
Nutrition & health points
Avocado is rich in unsaturated fatty acids (especially oleic acid), which are said to contribute to cardiovascular health. It's also high in dietary fiber, potassium, and vitamins E, K, and B complex, making it a filling ingredient. Bacon adds protein and umami, but it's relatively high in salt and saturated fat, so we recommend being mindful of quantity and frequency.
This recipe is relatively low in carbs and suitable for those following a keto approach, but total calories vary depending on the type and amount of bacon used. If you're concerned, choose low-sodium or additive-free bacon, or turkey bacon. Serving leafy greens or tomatoes as a side will help balance vitamins and dietary fiber.
Variations & tips
- Spread a little cream cheese or feta on the avocado before wrapping with bacon for extra richness.
- For a spicy kick, sprinkle chili flakes or cayenne pepper as an accent.
- For a healthier option, substitute bacon with thinly sliced turkey bacon or ham.
- In an air fryer, cook at 200°C for 8–10 minutes for a quick, crispy result.
- For parties, skewer them as bite-sized pinchos to make a more festive presentation.
